How To: Goal Setting

Let’s talk about setting monthly goals

Get your coffee and a notebook because we're diving in on why we need to start setting monthly goals. When we set goals, it allows us to adapt to new behaviors, regain focus, and improve our motivation and momentum in life. In return, we're then able to measure our progress and use benchmarks as an easy way to level up and evolve from where we were yesterday, last week, last month, whatever it may be.

Ok, enough of the blabbering, here's a what, when, and why on monthly goal-setting - enjoy!

WHAT

What goals did we personally set for ourselves this year and for the next five years? What are our short and long-term goals, and what's the roadmap we've made to achieve them? Well, whether we made the roadmap or not, setting monthly goals allows us to seamlessly develop the habits or accomplish the mini-milestones to achieve what we want. Personally, I've been writing down two to three specific mini-goals each month that help me get to where I want to be or is a habit I want to adopt, such as reading three times a week or developing a blog post once a week.

WHEN

I've been setting my monthly goals a week or so before the new month, but honestly, this is dependent on the way we each operate. We should be setting ourselves up for success, so stick to what works best, and maybe that's planning a week, a month, or even a few months in advance. We have to find our flow and keep up with it. My best tip is to have an accountability buddy; this is someone who knows our goals, can hold us responsible, and someone we can talk freely to.

WHY

The majority of us all have goals we want to achieve within our lifetime. However, sometimes our goals shift as we grow older, something new may trip a trigger, or it may be overwhelming by the amount of to-do's we still need to accomplish. This is why I've been into setting monthly goals; they're goals/habits I want to master, but it's broken down in a more digestible and trackable way.
