What is bulletproof coffee?

There is no better feeling than waking up to the smell of coffee and enjoying it before you start the new day. According to an article in Women's Health, bulletproof coffee was designed by Dave Asprey, owner of Bulletproof Executive, who says the purpose is to "supercharge your brain function and create effortless fat loss with no cravings." But, the important part in making this recipe is using organic products because there will be far less additives and fats within the butter and oil. 

Cows that are grass-fed supply a ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids, which is healthier than conventionally raised livestock (similar to the breakdown of fatty fish). Meanwhile, MCTs are a unique form of fat which require less energy and enzymes to be digested when compared to another type of fat known as long-chain triglycerides, says Kerry Bajaj, a Be Well Health Coach at Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City. 

For me, this coffee mix does wonders on my body and helps my digestive system run a bit smoother than normal, which is my main reason I drink it. But, just because the mixture works for me it doesn't always mean the same for everyone. Also, if you are prone to weight gain and sensitive to fats, then this mixture may not be for you because it adds an extra 200-300 calories to your daily intake.

Ingredients:

1 cup of black coffee (any kind)

1 tbsp of organic grass-fed butter

1 tsp of organic coconut oil

Optional sweetener - tbsp of stevia / honey / etc 

Instructions:

  1. Once you've brewed up a cup of hot coffee, pour it into your blender

  2. Add in the butter, coconut oil and sweetener and wait until it becomes a light brown with a frothy top. Make sure there is no sign of oil sitting on the top

  3. Pour and enjoy!
